Prescription OCR Scanner
The Prescription OCR Scanner reads a photo of a printed or handwritten prescription and uses Gemini AI to extract details such as the doctor, patient, date, diagnosis, instructions, and medicines.
What this page does
The scanner can also compare extracted medicine names with your inventory.
Note:OCR means optical character recognition: software reading text from an image.
Warning:The scanner is an assistant for reading the prescription. It does not confirm that the prescription or extracted details are correct.

Read the results
The results may include:
- Doctor, Patient, Date, Diagnosis, and Instructions when the scanner can read them.
- Medicines found, with extracted details such as dosage, frequency, duration, route, and notes.
- A confidence label indicating how certain the scan says it is.
- In Stock or Not in inventory for each medicine.
- Matched in inventory, which can show possible matching items, stock, unit, and sale price.
Warning:A medicine match is only a possible inventory match. Similar names can refer to different products, strengths, or forms.
Use the extracted list
- Select Copy List to copy the medicine names and available dosage, frequency, and duration text.
- Select Create Prescription from This to open the prescription page.
Note:The OCR page itself does not save a prescription or update inventory. Check the details again in the prescription workflow.
Important safety check
Before creating or dispensing a prescription:
- Compare the scan with the original image.
- Confirm the patient, medicine name, strength, dosage, route, frequency, and duration with the prescribing clinician or authorized staff.
Warning:Handwriting, blurry photos, abbreviations, and similar medicine names can lead to incorrect readings. Do not use the AI result alone to make treatment decisions.
Helpful definitions
- Dosage: How much medicine to take each time.
- Frequency: How often to take it.
- Duration: How long to take it.
- Route: How the medicine is taken, such as by mouth or applied to the skin.
- Confidence: The scanner’s estimate of how certain its reading is.
